101 Things in 1001 Days: March Update

The Hibiscus, Malaysia's National Flower
Feb 2011

I will be getting on the plane for Argentina in 3 days' time, and I know I'm going to miss Malaysia.....the warmth of its people, the delicious and varied cuisine, and my family and friends, especially Sepilok Fui who's been the inspiration for the South American adventure and who's been a real help in getting me up in the mornings and encouraging me to exercise so I can trek up Macchu Picchu! Thank you Fui!

Even though it's not the end of March yet, it's a good time to do the March update/review of my 101 Things to Do in 1001 Days.

I am going to try to continue my 101 things.....especially #2 & #3 waking/sleeping earlier. Much needed is also #11 Listen more than talk which I have just started and with a couple of lapses, have managed to keep to.

 17% completed so far....

#2a. wake up at 9am every day for 7 days (7/7)
#2b. wake up by 8 am every day for 7 days (7/7)
#3a Go to bed by 2 every day for 7 days (7/7)
3b. go to bed by 1 for 7 days (7/7)

Zen Thought 5: Life is a Mirror

Crater Lake, Oregon.
Sept 2010

Life is a mirror.
In whatsoever way you are related with life, it reflects you.
Don't try to change life; just change yourself and life changes.

The mirror is the same.
When you come before the mirror it reflects your face.
And if your face is not that of a Buddha, what can the mirror do?
When Buddha comes before the mirror, it reflects Buddhahood.

Once your face changes, the mirror changes;
because a mirror has no fixed standpoint.
The mirror is just echoing, reflecting.
It does not say anything.
It simply shows you.

If life is miserable, you must have started the chain.
If everybody is against you, you must have started the chain.
If everybody feels enmity, you must have started the chain.

Change the cause, and you are the cause.

#40 - Keep a Travel Journal - Started

Amtrak Station, Vancouver BC, Canada
Oct 2010

Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life

~ On the Road by Jack Kerouac, novelist and poet

Rather than start a new travel journal, I have revived and re-organised my old travel blog which you can see here . I've started updating it with all my travels and trips for the past few years so that I can keep all my travel memories in one place.

Can't wait to journal my adventure to Argentina and Peru......coming up end of the month!

Pattern Magic

Pattern Magic Vols 1 & 2 by Tomoko Nakamichi

The Pattern Magic series by Tomoko Nakamichi are my favorite pattern drafting books!

The designs are original, creative and inspiring. The ideas and techniques can be easily adapted to my own designs. A lot of the students at the fashion school are using these books as inspiration :)

Mine is the Japanese version, although I've heard there's an English version.  The schematics and diagrams are good enough that my total lack of knowledge of the Japanese language is not a problem.

Here's a peek inside.....

The Origami Dress Project

from Youtube. Uploaded by trpattern

This is an amazing technique! Shingo Sato from the TR Cutting School demonstrating how to make an origami dress.

TR = Transformational Reconstruction and is an organic and intuitive process for pattern making. Attending one of their classes/workshops is definitely going on my "101 Things to Do Someday" list

More info and a demo movie on their website

Explore, Dream, Discover

Crescent City Harbour, CA. US 101 Road Trip
Sept 2010

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do.

So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour.
Catch the trade winds in your sail.

Explore, Dream, Discover.

Sewing 3: Wedding Gown for MG (12)

Ivan & MG's Wedding,
March 2012

Click here to view all posts on MG's Wedding Gown

Forgot to take a pic of the train on my mannequin, so here's a photo of MG and Ivan at their wedding.

This is the moment when the whole church is waiting for the groom to kiss the bride ; )

Asians don't usually show affection publicly.....that's probably why MG looks a bit shy about it. Ivan seems to be saying, "come on, let's do it or they'll never allow us to leave the church!"

MG looked really, really beautiful in her wedding gown and train.
She's always beautiful and would look great even dressed in rags. But on her wedding day, she looked so happy and radiant, and especially lovely!

I made the train just in time for the wedding. This is my first wedding gown and so I was really nervous.......I am just relieved everything held and nothing snapped or tore or dropped off. *phew*

I love how she matched the outfit with a fascinator and's really stylish and complements the outfit so well.
