What Life is Not

Hanoi, Vietnam Mar 2008

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside - Chardonnay in one hand, chocolate in the other - thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming "WOO HOO, What a Ride"

but I think he may have been a Hells Angel :D

Visit Ha Long Bay

Halong Bay, Vietnam. Mar 2008

Ha Long Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage. The main attraction is the many limestone grottos and caves with chambers of stalactite and stalagmite formations.

Go to Vietnam

Water Puppet Theatre, Hanoi, Vietnam Mar 2008

Hanoi is a city of contrasts. Against a backdrop of skyscrapers I explored the narrow streets of the Old Quarter with names like Herb Street (Lan Ong), Tin Street (Hang Theic), Silk Street (Hang Dao) and Roasted Fish (Cha Ca); and was transported back to Old Asia.

Eat fresh fruit and vegetables every day for 30 days

Pike Street Market, Seattle WA. Oct 2010

Started the day with a breakfast smoothie using fresh fruit, soya milk, raw oats and sometimes yoghurt and honey. This was delicious and easy to do with the blender. With different combinations of fruit, there was plenty of variety to keep me from feeling bored.

Go on a Train Journey

Amtrak Station, Seattle, WA. Oct2010

I flew into Portland OR, in US from Vancouver in Canada, and decided to return by train via Seattle. I'm so glad I did......no stress, no rush, with time to spend with family and friends right till it's time to board. And for a fraction of the cost of an air-ticket.

Travel to Seattle

Pike Place Market, Seattle, WA. Oct 2010

Another "Someday Again" bucket list item! Seattle was a stopover point for me, on my way to Orlando and to Canada. but now I wish I had stayed a lot longer. There is so much to see and do around the area.

I had planned to do a quick tour of the City, but ended up spending most of my limited time in and around the Pike Place Market

Cirque Du Soleil

Cirque du Soleil, Orlando, Oct 2010

Cirque du Soleil is truly an amazing experience. They have several programs in different locations with Las Vegas having the most shows.  While I was in Orlando, I managed to get tickets for "Nouba".

Visit a Waterfall

Multnomah Falls, Oregon, Oct 2010

Multnomah Falls is the second highest falls in the US with a 620 feet drop. From Portland, Oregon, it makes a pleasant half day trip with a stop at Vista House at Crown Point for scenic views of the Columbia River.

See Crater Lake

Crater Lake, Oregon. Oct 2010

Crater Lake was also part of my US 101 road trip.
From the US 101, I turned into the Redwoods Highway, taking a detour to Stout Grove for the walking trail, then continued along US 62 all the way up to Crater Lake.

See the Redwood Forest

Stout Grove,
Jedidiah Smith Redwoods State Park,
Sep 2010

Jedidiah Smith Redwoods State Park was part of my US 101 Road Trip
From Crescent City, I drove along the Redwood Highway then made a detour to Howlands Hill Road and to Stout Grove, where there's a walking trail.

Take a Roadtrip

Covered bridge on the way to Howlands Hill Road,
California, US. Sep 2010

Taking a road trip was just a one-liner on my bucket list, but it took weeks of planning and co-ordination to investigate places to see, figuring out how to get there, booking places to stay, etc. but it was all worth it and this is one of the best vacations I've ever had.

The US 101 has to be one of the most amazing and scenic routes for a road trip.

Life is a Journey
